Oil rigs, construction sites, pipelines and cell phone towers don’t have street addresses – they use latitude/longitude coordinates instead. This means the field service software they use needs to provide the ability to locate work sites differently. We've solved that issue by also letting companies to use latitude and longitude to designate a customer or internal locations.
We just released a white paper called “No Street Address, No Problem” that provides a brief overview of the history and development of latitude/longitude as a method of finding points on the globe. It also explains how latitude/longitude are used by today’s mobile field service management solutions (like FieldAware) to help technicians locate and service equipment in remote areas.
